( REEDNOSE ) ( riverclan deputy )
GENDER : she-cat
POSITION : deputy
AGE : 27 moons
PICTURE : click!
QUICK DESC. : a compact, muscled ginger and white she-cat
APPEARANCE : Reednose's build is really the part of her that stands out a lot. She is very short, shorter than most cats in her Clan. She stands about a shoulder shorter than them. However, that helps because in the 'leaf-bare' of this cold place, she is warm. She is small and compact. However, instead of being light, she is muscled. You can easily underestimate her unless you feel the strength of her paw. You would not be impressed with the color or the condition of her fur, but then again Reednose was never the prettiest cat in the Clan. She is white, first of all, completely white. But then she has some ginger tabby splotches. The splotches cover her legs and tail. The condition of her fur? Well, just plain ratty. True, it doesn't have branches or twigs in it, but in some places it is a little bit matted and in some places her fur is even graying a little bit. Maybe if she had a different pattern on her fur and she actually cared about how her fur looks she could look a little prettier. Her fur is very short, so that you would wonder how she could survive in such a cold environment. However, her fur is extremely thick. Plus, her compactness helps her keep warm. Her tail is not long or feathery, or beautiful in anyway. Instead, it is short and stubby and ginger-striped. But then again, you don't have to be beautiful to be a good deputy, do you? Reednose's eyes are a dark amber. They are medium-sized and set a little too close together for her to be pretty. PERSONALITY : Reednose, when you look at her, seems like a friendly cat. That is true...sometimes. She is an extremely good deputy, always thinking about her Clan before herself, and never breaks the warrior code. She stands by her leader in Creekstar's decisions all the time and defends her Clan extremely well. Her strength in battle is well-known throughout the Clans; she can be deadly when physically challenged. Most of the time, she is friendly. Whenever you ask her to do something that deputies are meant to do, she says yes. She is very well-mannered and polite, as well as considerate and friendly. However, she isn't just plain stiffly polite, she can play still. She enjoys play-fighting with the young warriors. Of course, she always wins, but it is still fun. However, if one cat is being disrespectful or breaking the warrior code, or anything like that, she will immediately become the strict deputy that some kittens are even afraid of. Once you get lectured by Reednose, you remember it for a long time. She picks extremely harsh punishments, but never punishments that endanger the cat's well-being. Against other Clans, she is smooth and secretive. She has the amazing ability to be able to make good friends in other Clans, have a conversation with them without telling any RiverClan secrets, scar them in battle, and still be really great friends with them. She is merciless with cats from other Clans, but she can still make a lot of friends. She would never kill, no, she has never broken one measly warrior code law in her life. HISTORY : Reedkit, unlike most kits, was not born. Well, she was born, but no cat knows how or where. She was found stuffed in a tree hollow, barely alive, with the dead bodies of her two brothers beside her. And she uttered one word, "help." No cat knows who her parents were, but I'll tell you. Her father was a kittypet who was sitting on his fence when his mother started playing with him; she was the flirty type, who earned the trust of toms, then dumped 'em. But, for them, it went beyond flirts. They mated. But, you see, afterwards, Lara (that was her mother's name) said to herself, "You know what? I don't need a tom following me around like a lost kit." So their next, meeting, she flat out went and killed him. She was going to kill her kits, too, but when Reedkit rubbed gaainst her, Lara's heart melted. So she taught them the word 'help' and stuffed them in a tree hollow.
So Reedkit was nursed by a 'Snowdrop', who, instead of loving her, like a good mother should, she detested her. You see, Snowdrop was nothing like a soft, white, delicate flower. She was a mean, angry cat who was, in fact, almost an outcast in the Clan. So you see, as soon as Reedkit was old enough to stop drinking milk from her mother, she was kicked out of the nursery. And, well, its actually thanks to Snowdrop that her knowledge came. She watched the camp all day. And at night, she slept in the medicine cat's den. Her Clan tried to talk Snowdrop into caring for Reedkit, but the she-cat refused to see the kit's face. And then there was one thing that decided it. Reedkit tried to help the medicine cat, but he kept snapping at her, and she became angry, and attacked him. Nobody got hurt, though, but the Clan decided that Reedkit had too much idle time. She was apprenticed at the age of five and a half moons.
Sunstar, the leader, made sure to give her an extremely friendly mentor, because she was just a kit, and motherless, too, so she knew nothing except what she had learned from watching. So, her mentor was a good-natured tom named Patchedleaf. Patchedleaf was old enough to be an elder, but he had warrior blood in his veins 24/7. The lively tom refused to become an elder, but the truth was, he was quite creaky. So, he often had seizures while training, but they were nothing to worry about, said Patchedleaf. It was the most fun Breezepaw had had in her life, with Patchedleaf. There was one problem. Once, while they were walking away from battle-training, Patchedleaf got another seizure. But this time, he was longer and more hazardous. He was rolling on the ground, wretching. And, so, he choked to death.
Because Reedpaw was mentorless, Sunstar decided to make her a warrior. So, the night after Patchedleaf was buried, Sunstar had a Clan meeting and named Reedpaw 'Reednose'. Reednose sat by the entrance of the camp that night, looking at the stars, wondering which tiny pinpoint of light was Patchedleaf. In the morning, Drizzlesnow, the deputy, walked by and tapped her on the shoulder, letting Reednose know that she could talk now. The young warrior immediately padded to the fresh-kill pile and finished off a good thrush before padding into the warrior's den for some sleep. It was a tiring day for her, as she only got to sleep for twenty minutes, because Drizzlesnow picked her for the sun-high patrol. After that, she had to go hunting until sunset.
As a young warrior, Reednose stuck to the rules, always. However, she was more mellowed, not as happy as she used to be. This is because while she was hunting until sunset, she had passed her tree hollow and smelled her and her mother on it. This had forced the young cat to rethink her history and give some thought on her real mother. She felt as though she was bursting, she needed to tell somebody, but there was nobody to trust. So, with that depressed feeling inside, she got that strict side. However, it did her some good. because she followed the rules, she was rewarded with an apprentice.
Smoothpaw never wanted to be Reednose's apprentice, the grouchy ol' lump. He wanted to be Butterflynose's apprentice. But Butterflynose was having kits. Smoothpw did the best he could at making everything hard for Reednose; while she was patiently teaching him how to creep up on a rabbit before she ran, he rustled some heather and her rabbit bounded away, tail up. He foiled everything she tried to teach him; finally, she got fed up and yelled at him. It forced some sense into poor Smoothpaw. He must've thought she was crazy, but he obeyed her.
When Drizzlesnow died, Reednose felt a deep sense of loss for the Clan. Sunstar named Creekshine, one of the other warriors that was Reednose's age, deputy. When Sunstar died, she wailed with grief along with everyone else. She slept with him that night, the friendly cat who had given her Patchedleaf and Smoothpaw. She was very surprised to become deputy and very thrilled, too. ROLEPLAY SAMPLE : From another site:
Rowanstar yawned quietly and blinked open his eyes. Light flooded in from his den entrance. As he got to his paws, the tragedy of Shallowtip, Swanstar, Blackwind, and Dewleaf quickly fell on his shoulder. He tried to look strong, for his Clan, but sometimes he just felt like running off. He needed some space now and then, and the Clan wasn’t giving him it. Unless....
The sun was just peeking over the horizon, and all the cats of RiverClan were sleeping soundly. Rowanstar slipped out of his den, letting the welcoming warmth of the dawn sun wash over his fur. He felt unusually refreshed now that no cat was bugging him about one thing or another. He stretched elaborately and started grooming himself. He scurried onto the Riverstone just to feel like he was the leader of his Clan. True, he probably wouldn’t be a very good one, but it was worth a try.
Rowanstar felt disappointed when he heard a yawn and a stretch. He quickly streaked out of camp, just a brown blur, complete with dark amber eyes. Outside the camp, he wakened his senses. Pricking up his ears, he galloped soundlessly toward the river. He could already smell the fish, but something else was also on his mind. Shallowtip, his daughter, was the cat he was thinking open. If he hadn’t gotten so angry, he wouldn’t have blacked out. Therefore, Shallowtip wouldn’t have had to save him and everyone would be happy. He felt a pang of regret.
Rowanstar had needed this walk for a long time. Being a Clan leader for the first time, plus the fact that it was his fault about Shallowtip’s death was making him crazy. he snapped at his warriors, and almost attacked his medicine cat the other day when it tried to give him herbs. He was restless, and he just needed this calm, this quietness. It actually made him feel good, like he was glowing, even though he knew he never would. He missed what it felt like to have a family. Dewleaf had died of greencough, and well, he blamed Shallowtip’s death on himself. He actually almost hated himself now, but he knew he had to remain strong, for his Clan.
Stupid Clan. They asked too much from him. They expected him to just be some nice, friendly guy, when his daughter just died because of him. He was at the river now, and slapped it with anger. The water swirled up in the air, splashing at his face. He gave a growl. He couldn’t win against anything. Sometimes he felt like the Clan was against him, they just wanted to tire him out, get him out the way for the next leader to come along. He stifled a sigh, remembering those perfect days when Dewleaf was alive, and he was training Shallowtip. These were much worse times. Everything Rowanstar loved was gone. He was on his own, and he was confused and crazy. CODEWORD: snowbound
